Khandoli Dam in Giridih
Khandoli Dam is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the city of Giridih. The dam is located 10 km in north – east direction to the main city. The name of the dam is kept after the hills of Khandoli. The dam is made by the purpose to conserve water for the residents of the city. Geographical Description of Khandoli Dam
The Khandoli dam is constructed in the hilly terrain at the foothill of Khandoli hills. Surrounded by forest and river, the Khandoli hill is saddle shaped. The hill is made up of graniteoid gneiss. The hill looks like a volcano from the top with a huge saddle that has boulders attached to it. The dam is constructed to provide water supply to the region. With the construction of dam, the site is developed as a visiting place so that the visitors can enjoy amidst nature. There is a watch tower at a height of 600ft.from wherer you can have the view of the entire region. The place becomes more beautiful during the dawn and dusk. The golden glittery sun rays illuminates the water and creates a magical moments that the visitors cherishes. The construction of the dam began in the year of 1955 and the dam opened for tourists in the year of 1957.
Wildlife in Khandoli Dam

The migration of birds generally starts from the second week of November every year for a peaceful and warmer climate. The birds’ returns back in the month of March. The species of birds that can be seen in the region are Siberian Duck, Bar-headed goose, Siberian Crane, Brahminy shelduck (Ruddy Shelduck), Drano, Great Cormorant, Mallard, Little Grave etc. Few small wild animals are also visible in the region are rabbit, guinea pig, peacock, owls etc. The park also has a small cage where the few of the animals are kept for the amusement of the visitors.

The Khandoli Park comes under the district tourism department and is developed by them as the tourist destination by them to increase the tourism in the region. Due to the migration of migratory birds from all corner of the globe, the number of visitors increases in the month of November every year. The park has emerged to be a paradise for bird watchers. One can always see photographers and sketch artists in the park vicinity. The park is spread over 6 acres of area on the hilly terrain. The amusement park has a small collection of animals in cages and toy trains to give joy rides to the visitors. For safari lovers elephant and camel safari are available to explore the park. The site has a watch tower that is 600 feet of height that gives a thrilling view of the entire city.
